- 01The residence was originally constructed in 1829 for Alexandre Lavalette, a French sea merchant. Following an extensive restoration project dedicated to preserving its 19th-century stonework and architectural heritage, the property recently reopened its doors as a premier boutique hotel.
- 02Hotel 1829 is a privately owned and operated establishment under the management of Kings Quarter Hospitality. Although the property is situated within the historic Government Hill district and is a designated member of the Historic Hotels of America, it remains an independent commercial enterprise.
- 03The property maintains the following schedule for arrivals and departures: Check-in: 3:00 PM – 8:00 PM Check-out: By 11:00 AM Arrivals outside these hours: For arrivals scheduled after 8:00 PM, guests are requested to contact the hotel in advance to coordinate personalized check-in instructions. Hours of Operation: 7:30am - 9pm.
- 04The necessity of a vehicle depends upon your planned itinerary: Local Exploration: For guests primarily interested in the shops of Main Street, the historic district, and the St. John ferry terminal, the hotel’s central location makes most attractions accessible by foot. Island-wide Travel: For those intending to visit Magens Bay or the island’s East End, a rental vehicle or the use of local taxi services is recommended.
- 05Due to the historic preservation of the site and its hillside topography, on-site parking is not available. Guests may utilize street parking along Kongens Gade or nearby public parking facilities. Please be advised that parking availability may vary during local holidays or special events.
- 06Hotel 1829 is located approximately 15 minutes from Cyril E. King Airport (STT). Taxi Service: Regulated taxi services are available at the airport terminal. Fares are typically determined by the Virgin Islands Taxicab Commission based on the number of passengers and luggage. Private Transfers: Guests may opt to pre-arrange private shuttle services through local transportation providers. Driving Directions: Proceed East on Route 30 (Veterans Drive) toward Charlotte Amalie, following signage for Government Hill and the 99 Steps landmark.
