The residence was originally constructed in 1829 for Alexandre Lavalette, a French sea merchant. Following an extensive restoration project dedicated to preserving its 19th-century stonework and architectural heritage, the property recently reopened its doors as a premier boutique hotel.

Hotel 1829 is a privately owned and operated establishment under the management of Kings Quarter Hospitality. Although the property is situated within the historic Government Hill district and is a designated member of the Historic Hotels of America, it remains an independent commercial enterprise.
